Charlie Smith was born and raised in Southern California. She moved to McCall, Idaho in 1995 where she resided until November of 2002 at which point her youngest son Trevor was diagnosed with brain cancer. Charlie relocated to Boise, Idaho where Trevor was successfully treated for his illness at St. Lukes Hospital. Charlie’s personal experience of having a child with a life-threatening illness bolstered her into wanting to do something to give back. Together with her son Trevor they founded Trevor’s Trek Foundation. Charlie is a board member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho and is involved with the Comprehensive Cancer Alliance for Idaho. She is also on the board of the National Disease Cluster Alliance(NDCA). Charlie’s passion is to focus not only on childhood cancer awareness and cures, but to also address probable causes of this disease, such as environmental factors.
