Trevor’s Trek Website Privacy Policy

Trevor’s Trek Foundation, Inc., the owner and operator of the website located at www.trevorstrek.org, (“Trevor’s Trek”) recognizes that its contributors, visitors, and others (collectively or individually “Users”) who use Trevor’s Trek or other websites owned or operated by Trevor’s Trek Foundation, Inc., (collectively, the “Trevor’s Trek Sites”) value their privacy.  This Privacy Policy details important information regarding the use and disclosure of Users’ information collected on the Trevor’s Trek Sites.   Your use of the Trevor’s Trek Sites and any personal information you provide on the Trevor’s Trek Sites remains subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Trevor’s Trek Sites are designed as an educational, informational, and community resource for raising awareness of childhood cancer and supporting research into the causation and prevention of childhood cancer.  Trevor’s Trek posts information and resources about childhood cancer.  However Trevor’s Trek does not advocate or endorse any particular research study, clinical trial, or medical treatment.  Trevor’s Trek Sites are in no way meant to be a substitute for counseling or medical advice.  For answers to specific childhood cancer questions, please consult your health care provider.

Cookies.  Trevor’s Trek Sites use cookies, small files that are sent to your web browser and stored on your computer’s hard drive, to improve your digital experience.  The cookie is used to speed up your access to the Trevor’s Trek Sites and the information you wish to see, but it does not contain any personal information.  The majority of web browsers accept cookies, but the “help” menu on your browser should give you options for preventing, accepting, or receiving notice of new cookies.  However, please be aware that if you block cookies, some website functionality may be lost.

Data Collection.  Trevor’s Trek Sites collect the following types of information:

  1. Standard Web Server Traffic Pattern Information.  General traffic, site usage, browser information, and length of stay information may be collected and stored.  This type of information is shared externally only on an aggregated basis.
  2. Personal Information.  We do not collect personal information from you unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly.  If you make a personalized post on a Site, volunteer, contact us, request information, or donate, for example, we may collect that information.
  3. Media.  Any videos, pictures, music, or information that you submit to the Trevor’s Trek Sites may be redistributed through the Internet and other media channels, may be viewed by the general public, and may be collected by us.

Internal Data Use.  If you do not make a personalized post on a Site, volunteer, contact us, request information, donate or otherwise identify yourself, we will have no personal information about you.  We will only use aggregate information derived, in part, from your use of our site to improve our site and our service to you.  If you provide personal information, we may enter your name into our constituent database and contact you in order to complete voluntary surveys seeking feedback for quality and service improvement purposes; supply you with information including youth cancer related health news and Trevor’s Trek events and services; request voluntary time or monetary contributions to Trevor’s Trek; and request your participation in a research study associated with childhood cancer.  Additionally, we may use your personal information for such purposes as customizing the content and advertising you see, fulfilling your requests, improving our Sites, and contacting you.

External Data Use.  Your personal information will not be shared or released to any organization or business entity other than those affiliated with or working in conjunction with Trevor’s Trek as further described in this policy.  We occasionally make our User names and postal addresses available to other organizations.  We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf.  We will only provide those companies the information they need to deliver the service and prohibit them from using that information for any other purpose.  We have relationships with companies and organizations that conduct charitable sales promotions and commercial coventures that support us in our mission and activities.  If you provide us with your personal information, we may pass your information to these companies so that they may ask you if you are interested in receiving their services.  Your choice to use their services will benefit us; the amount of money we receive from these entities as a result of your participation is disclosed at the time you are contacted about the service.  You are under no obligation to respond and the companies are restricted from using your personal information for any other purpose.  We will transfer your personal information to another organization if we merge with that organization.

We will disclose personal and non-personally information when we believe it is necessary to: (1) respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process; (2) establish or exercise our legal rights; (3) defend against legal claims; (4) investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or violations of our terms of use; or (5) to otherwise comply with the law.

 Public Forums.  If you choose to participate in a discussion board, news group, or another public forum that we make available to Users, please remember that any information that you disclose in these areas becomes public information.  You should exercise caution when deciding whether or not to disclose your personal information.

Options. We recognize that you may wish to limit the ways in which we contact you and we offer the following options:

  1. Do not contact me by telephone.
  2. Do not contact me by postal mail.
  3. Do not contact me by email.
  4. Do not share my contact information with other organizations.
  5. Do not contact me with fundraising requests supporting Trevor’s Trek.
  6. Limit your fundraising appeals to semiannual solicitations only.
  7. Do not contact me or share my information with anyone.

For more information on how to inform us of any desired restrictions, please contact us at info@trevorstrek.org.  If you contact us with an opt-out request, all reasonable efforts will be taken to ensure that you will not receive any of the selected communications from us in the future.  If you do not wish to opt out at this time, you may do so at a later date should you so desire.

Data Security.  We are committed to protecting the security of your personal information and to honoring your choices for its intended use.  To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we strive to maintain physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards.  If we learn of a security systems breach, then we may attempt to notify you electronically so that you can take appropriate protective steps.  We may post a notice on the Trevor’s Trek Sites if a security breach occurs.

External Links.  Our privacy policies apply only to your use of the Trevor’s Trek Sites.  The Trevor’s Trek Sites may contain links to other sites, including sites that have a special relationship with us.  We do not disclose personably identifiable information to those operating linked sites, except as part of a program specified in our External Data Use section of this policy.  We are not responsible for linked sites privacy practices.  Links to other sites do not imply an endorsement of the materials or policies on those websites.  You should read the privacy policies of each site you visit to determine what information that site may be collecting about you.

International Users.  Please be advised that through your continued use of the Trevor’s Trek Sites, which are governed by U.S. law, this Privacy Policy, and our Terms of Use, that you are agreeing to be bound by the laws of this territory and by transferring your personal information to the United States, you consent to that transfer.

Privacy for Children.  Protecting the privacy of young children is especially important.  For that reason, we do not knowingly collect or maintain personal information or non-personal information on the Trevor’s Trek Sites from persons under 13 years of age, and no part of our website is directed to persons under 13.  If you are under 13 years of age, then please do not use or access the Trevor’s Trek Sites at any time or in any manner.  If we learn that personal information of persons under 13 years of age has been collected on the Trevor’s Trek Sites without verified parental consent, then we will take the appropriate steps to delete this information.
